2. Transilvania and The Transalpine Route

(6 days / 5 nights)

Day 1

Arrival at airport in Bucharest.
Meet with English Speaking Guide and transfer to hotel.
(Dinner) and night in 3 stars hotel.

 
 
Day 2

Departure to Brasov, the city that reunites gothique and baroque style in its historical area. Brasov is a purely touristical city. It reveals itself to the visitor as a city with two belts: a more extensive one made of endless forests in the mountains and a much better delineated one made of walls broken here and there.
Visit stops:
- Sinaia - Peles Castle, the royal family's summer residence, built between 1875 and 1914 in German and Italian Renaissance style, with elements of Rococo, Baroque and Moorish.
- Bran - Dracula's Castle: fortress built in 1377 with the aim of defending the main commercial road between Brasov and Wallachia. Legend attributes the castle to Vlad Tepes (the Impaler), the historical figure who inspired Irish author Bram Stoker to create his famous "Dracula". (Lunch in Bran) Panoramic tour of the city of Brasov with the Black Church and the Council Square.

Day 3

Departure for the city of Sibiu, founded by the Saxons. A city of Transylvania, rich in history and which was designated as European Capital of Culture. The foundation of the city of Sibiu dates back to Roman times under the name "Cibinum". In medieval times it was an important defensive position in relation to the attacks of enemies coming from the south.
Arrive at the medieval citadelle Sighisoara and visit the XIII century town. City tour of Sighisoara, one of the most beautiful cities of Romania and definitely the most romantic( UNESCO patrimony). Sighisoara is also the birthplace of the Price of Wallachia, Vlad Tepes (the Impaler) who inspired the very famous novel "Dracula". Visit: The Clock Tower considered the symbol of the city. 64 m high, it was erected in 1676. The tower houses the Museum of History since 1898 and visiting the various rooms you can remember the city's history.
The Casa Vlad Dracul is the house where Vlad Dracul (father of the famous Vlad Tepes who was born in 1431) lived. Inside there is a restaurant and a collection of medieval weapons.

Visit the XV century fortified church of Biertan (UNESCO).
Sibiu - Panoramic tour of the city.
(Dinner) and night in 3 stars hotel.


 
Day 4

Trip on the new road between Transylvania and Wallachia, the TRANSALPINA ROUTE, the highest road in Romania. The highest point is reached ad Urdele Pass, at 2145 m. This route was also known as the "King's Road", in the interwar period in relation to King Carol II and was rebuilt.

(Dinner) and night in 3 stars hotel in Ranca (1600 m), one of the most beautiful mountain resort.





Day 5

Women's Cave and Horezu Monastery, which was included among the monuments of World Heritage in 1999. It is the largest preserved medieval architectural complex in Wallachia, erected by Prince Constantin Brancoveanu. The complex includes the church (built between 1690 and 1693), the bell tower, chapel and refectory.
Departure to Bucharest.
(Lunch in Ramnicu Valcea).
(Dinner) and night in 3 stars hotel in Bucharest.


 
Day 6

Panoramic city tour of Bucharest with Parliament Palace and transfer to airport.
